What Do I Know Of Holy?

So often we think we know it all, or we think we know who God is. But we need to always keep in focus that we only know what God allows us to know. This past Wednesday, the Mission28'rs watched a message by Louie Giglio...if you haven't heard of him he is a Christian music producer most associated with Chris Tomlin. He talked about the indescribableness (and if that's not a word, it is now haha!) of God and how small we really are. Here are the links to the video, its in 5 parts and its between 45 minutes and an hour. I highly recommend that you guys take the time to watch this, you will not regret it.
Part 1
Please take the time, you will learn so much about our wonderful creator!
I found this song by Addison Road and it really plays in with Louie Giglio's message and the thought that we are much smaller than we think. Something to think on :)

What Do I Know Of Holy?
by Addison Road

I made You promises a thousand times
I tried to hear from Heaven
But I talked the whole time
I think I made You too small
I never feared You at all No
If You touched my face would I know You?
Looked into my eyes could I behold You?
(CHORUS)
What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

I guess I thought that I had figured You out
I knew all the stories and I learned to talk about
How You were mighty to save
Those were only empty words on a page
Then I caught a glimpse of who You might be
The slightest hint of You brought me down to my knees

(CHORUS)
What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

(CHORUS 2)
What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of wounds that will heal my shame?
And a God who gave life it's name?
What do I know of Holy?
Of the One who the angels praise?
All creation knows Your name
On earth and heaven above
What do I know of this love?

(CHORUS)
What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of Holy?

You guys have a great weekend!

Websites/blogs

I was wondering which of you have blogs/websites. If you have one/any, could you post the URLs? (Or, if that would be unacceptable for some reason, could you tell me at church?) I am interested for two reasons: first, to get to know you all better, and second, because my writing assignment for the next few weeks is to create my own website. Therefore, those of you with experience with "actual websites" (not blogs), could you pass on any helpful tips? Thanks!
(Chelsey, is this post outside of the parameters of this blog?)

God the Rock

I've started studying names/attributes of God in my Bible study, then writing poems about them. This one is based on the three definitions of rock: stronghold/firm foundation, to move rhythmically back and forth, and cause of coming danger. I thought you might be interested... (I'm beginning with my title, then key verse, then the poem itself).

O God my Rock
Isaiah 8:14a - He will be a sanctuary, but [also] a stone of stumbling and rock of offense.

Solid Rock on Whom I stand
All other ground is shifting sand

Never changing, always steady
Trustworthy I know and see
Refuge in the time of storm
Cleft in (the) rock that keeps me warm
Firm through all life's turmoils, strong
A place to be and to belong

Gentle Father rocks to sleep
Baby in the cradle deep
God the Father, One in Three
Using love to quiet me?
Loving One with tender care
Watches o'er His loved ones there

Impending danger! Watch! It's near!
Closer! Closer! Coming here!
God's wrath is wondrous to behold
Righteous, coming, crushing (the) bold
And all who dare to defy God
Above, or here on earthly sod

Solid Rock on Whom I stand
All other ground is shifting sand

Prayer Request

Hey guys, I've got a prayer request for yall.

Today at work (I work at the Concord Mills Chick-Fil-A), right before we opened at around 6:30 in the morning, one of my coworkers, whose name is Leigh, fell off of a shelf in our cooler onto the cement floor. The shelf she fell off was about 3 feet high, and as she fell she hit into another low shelf. She broke both her shoulder and elbow in her left arm.

She was in surgery at around 8 this morning. If you all would be able to pray for her quick recovery and that she would not be in much pain during her recovery period, which will most likely be a few months.

Thanks guys.

Verse of the Day

Week of September 30th

Theme of the Week- Humility

October 6th- Philippians 2:1-4 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

October 7th- 1 Peter 5:5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

October 8th- Matthew 23:11-12 The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

October 9th- Ephesians 4:1-3 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

October 10th- Matthew 18:1-4 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

thought you guys might enjoy this

I got a great birthday card from my granddad today. On the outside, it says "have an adequate birthday" and the inside says "brought to you by the National Foundation of Lowered Expectations." The Harris' would just love that.
