Thanksgiving Day
Function: noun
Date: 1674
a day appointed for giving thanks for divine goodness: as
a: the fourth Thursday in November observed as a legal holiday in the United States
b: the second Monday in October observed as a legal holiday in Canada

So is this really the meaning of thanksgiving? Is it really all about getting together with family, watching the parades, being thankful for toothpaste, eating turkey and taking long naps? maybe...or maybe its about something else...something more important than who brought the potato salad or who burned the biscuits Is Thanksgiving only supposed to be expressed on one day of the year? God deserves, requires, and commands our thanks and praise EVERY DAY...not just the 4th thursday
Check out some of these verses about thanksgiving:

Ezra 3:11
With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: "He is good; his love to Israel endures forever." And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
Psalm 69:30
I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

1 Corinthians 1:4
I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus

Psalm 95:2
Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song

Jonah 2:9
But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."

1 Corinthians 14:16
If you are praising God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say "Amen" to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying?

2 Corinthians 4:15
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God

Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God

Now, THAT is what Thanksgiving is...with that said, Happy Thanksgiving! Praise God for another day!
